Welcome! Thank you so much for considering my live wedding paintings, it would be a delight to take your love story and create a beautiful piece of artwork inspired by it. This page has information about my processes, how things work, and should answer many questions you may have.
If after reviewing you decide you would like to proceed with booking a live painting you can fill out the short form at the bottom of the page.
With 7 years of live wedding painting experience and having painted at over 100 different venues, I have an extensive range of experience. I am proficient in both painting weddings and working alongside vendors, venues, and guests to ensure that your painting is everything you hoped for.
Great artwork cannot be rushed, but it can be started at the wedding which is what I do! When you are investing in the commission of a live painting, you will receive a painting that has been given every moment it needs to be to meet the standard and quality of my work.
The night of the wedding, guests will get to watch the painting come to life with a focus on the newlyweds - without any doubt it is you two. Many guests think the painting is completed at the end of the night, and are surprised to know there are still hours in studio until completion.
They say if you build a house with good bones, it will last forever. The bones of artwork are the surface it’s painted on. I paint on hand stretched cotton canvas, rather than store bought canvas. Although a painting can be created on a store bought canvas I have found in my 15+ years experience of painting that they are prone to warping. This is because store canvas is sealed after production, protecting the wood from changes in humidity. Once the package is opened and the canvas is exposed to the elements, the wood is “shocked” with changes and can bend, warp, and skew in the weeks and months following the opening of the packaging.
Hand stretching means that I purchase segments of canvas bars that are stored in the open air, I then measure them, square them, and wrap/mount the canvas around them myself. This allows me to be in full control of the product and will prevent warping in the future.
This is something that despite being more time consuming is the best choice to ensure that your painting endures many years.
When you are paying for custom artwork, you expect it to be made with professional supplies. Student grade or hobby grade paints will not stand the test of time that fine art supplies will. Artist quality paints have a high pigment load, this means that if you squeeze an artist grade paint and a student/hobby grade paint there would be more colour pigment in the artist quality paint. This means that colours are more vibrant and rich. Another different is lightfastness, which is how a colour fades when it is exposed to light. I varnish my paintings to help prevent any fading of colours, in addition to using high quality paints.
My paintings are completed using Gamblin professional (not student!) brand oil paints which are the best available in terms of quality.
The night of the wedding I focus all of my efforts on getting your portraits looking amazing, and then work outwards from there - moving to your bodies and lastly the background. At the end of the wedding day, you are looking like you and the background is looking like the scene. When the painting comes back to the studio I paint a few more layers that deepen the colours from the wedding night, as well as refine the areas that were not focused on at the wedding.
Overall, on a 22x26" painting there is approximately 6 hours of painting at the wedding, and ~20 hours in studio.
